Sangiovese Masterclass

The Multiple Personalities of Sangiovese

  • We’ve come a long way since the days of wicker-wrapped fiasco bottles plopped on checkered tablecloths. The Sangiovese of today is better than ever, rivaling the greatest wines in the world.

Arguably Italy’s most important red grape variety considering the number of regions that grow it, however, the many styles, combined with the numerous blending partners and the dizzying amount of DOC’s make it one of the most difficult varieties to wrap our heads around.

Our tasting journey focuses on Tuscany, where we explore a variety of styles and discuss classic regions such as Montepulciano, Chianti Classico, and Montalcino while delving into its ancient history, origins, and its tendency to produce offspring varietals such as Nerello Mascalese and Frapatto.

By tasting and comparing eight classic Sangiovese-based wines from our cellar, our session provides insight into how to recognize the differences in terroir and winemaking that impact what's in the bottle. This session will be dynamic, and interactive, and leave you craving bistecca Fiorentina under the Tuscan sun.

    A light snack provided.
